HIV/AIDS: a perfect storm that continues to rage
Liberal democratic societies can and do handle a certain measure of ignorance, of incompetence, of dishonesty, of single-issue activism, of bureaucracy, of a corporate focus on profit-making, even of outright crime and terrorism, sometimes even warfare. But there was a perfect storm when “AIDS” first came along: ignorance, jumping to conclusions, incompetence, bureaucracy, careerist competition, and perhaps above all failing to heed dissenting voices from well-informed, well-qualified people, all combined to mis-diagnosis of AIDS and belief in a non-existent virus. The result has been four decades of harm to hundreds of millions of people and the wasting of hundreds of billions of dollars.
A comprehensive survey of this sad story has been written by Neville Hodgkinson, one of several journalists who had recognized quite early [1] the realities that showed that the official view was mistaken. That recent review can be read on the internet [2] and in published book form [3].
HIV/AIDS established some of the factors that contributed to the mis-management of the COVID pandemic [4] some four decades later.
Hodgkinson describes significant factors in the mistaken diagnosis of AIDS as being caused by a virus: politics, incompetent and dishonest behavior by Robert Gallo, a stampede for research grants based on the virus hypothesis once the National Institutes of Health had adopted that belief; a belief that gained continuing support from some religious quarters as well as from both gay activist groups and from people who want homosexual activity to be outlawed.
The vigorous suppression of critiques of the virus hypothesis included effective suppression of Hodgkinson's book, which is now republished with additional material [3].
A great deal of the dissent against HIV AIDS theory has focused on the HIV part and on Peter Duesberg’s leading role in demonstrating that HIV could not be the cause of AIDS. But to convince people that the theory is wrong requires also an explanation of what does bring about AIDS, and Hodgkinson does that by describing the work of biophysicist Eleni Papadopulos-Eleopulos and the Perth Group — which met the usual fate of dissent having articles rejected by Nature.
Hodgkinson noted at the outset of his review that hindsight of several years has brought a recognition that governments can and sometimes do follow the wrong advice when faced with an apparently new threat, as with COVID-19 [4]; and he offers sources that argued quite early for a laboratory origin of COVID-19 [5].
Hodgkinson also mentions other work that offers an unorthodox view of what happened during the COVID pandemic, for example that the revolutionary mRNA vaccines may not have been responsible for decreasing mortality [6].
Other sources have also made that claim, even going further to assert that the mRNA vaccines have actually been harmful to some number of people [7].
I have not tried to reach an informed judgment over that, perhaps because I so much enjoyed the memoir [8] of Katalin Karikó, who was awarded a Nobel Prize for her work on mRNA. No matter the eventual judgment as to mRNA vaccines, that memoir makes wonderfully inspiring reading. It brought me, for example, some valuable words of wisdom about rewards from feeling and expressing gratitude by contrast to the lack of benefit from seeking revenge [9].

Yes. History repeats when not enough people know the history
Thanks! But I'm not THAT modest, I agree everyone should read it
